October 17, the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping met Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who was visiting China to attend the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in the Great Hall of the People. Pre sident Xi Jinping emphasized the parties should build and operate projects like Hungary & Serbia Railroad and HBIS Smederevo Steel mill, well and bring economic and social benefits. Besides key infrastructure projects, digital economy and technological innovation also give new opportunities for growth. President Vucic said President Xi Jinping brought HBIS Group to Serbia from Hebei China to promote Serbia continue to develop and to promote the Smederevo steel plant to tide over difficulties. China's assistance to Serbia in various forms is particularly important to us.

In April 2016, HBIS purchased Smederevo Steel mill and HBIS Serbia Company was incorporated. In June 2016, President Xi Jinping visited HBIS Serbia and emphasized that we should keep our promises and make our project a success. HBIS firmly implemented President Xi Jinping’s instruction in HBIS Serbia and phase by phase realized our promises. We created Strategic Management + Localized Management model to benefit local communities by employing low people with low culture. These Triple Local Principles become HBIS Principles in all its overseas projects, showing that Chinese ideas and minds of Open, Sharing, Cooperation and Mutually Beneficial. HBIS provided advanced technologies to build energy conservative factories and build a new business model that brings higher efficiency of energy consumption. A green, efficient modern factory is rising in the heartland of Europe. In seven years, HBIS Serbia has produced over 9 million tons of crude steel and a total revenue over 6 billion Dollars, 4 years in a row, the company has become No.1 exporter in Serbia making it a showpiece project of China Mid-east European Country Industrial Cooperation and Belt & Road Initiative. In 2019, HBIS Serbia Executive Management team won the title of Model of Era, and in 2023 the company won awards from EU and UNDP.

HBIS Serbia has received great attention of Chinese and Serbian leaders. In several occasions, Chairman Xi Jinping has instructed that HBIS should fulfill our promises and the plant an iconic project in China Mid/East European Country Industrial Cooperation and Belt & Road Initiative. Make key industrial and infrastructure projects, including HBIS Smerderevo and Hungary - Serbia Railroad project. President Xi Jiping was quite satisfied with the performances of HBIS Serbia Company with the comments of within Cooperation of China and Mid-east European countries, projects were fruitful, like Serbian Smederevo steel mill. Serbian President Vucic also expressed in different occasions that the revival of Smederevo was a successful case, Chinese Smederevo project was giving a strong support to Serbian economy.

The attention and hopes of leaders give strong support to HBIS and HBIS will promote the spirits of Model of Era and with a stronger sense of political responsibility and confidence in development, further align the pace of its international development with national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative, release the path advantages of China's steel industry in innovation-driven, intelligent manufacturing, green and low-carbon, and accelerate the building of HBIS into a highly competitive steel enterprise in Europe.
